Nerds Rule.

Kalarippayattu is an Indian martial art and is considered one of the oldest fighting systems in existence. Rooted in the state of Kerala, Kalarippayat includes strikes, kicks, grappling, preset forms, weaponry and healing methods. Praise to Guru C Sankaranarayana Menon for being a gracious host.

I would like to think my spirit animal is a seagull.

Behind the Scenes at Wormland Photo Shoot, NYC

For the past 3 weeks I have been shooting a documentary at Paul’s Daughter. One of the last remaining Mom and Pop restaurants on the boardwalk, located at W.10th and the Boardwalk in Coney Island Brooklyn. Paul’s Daughter, formally Gregory and Pauls, has been feeding people on the boardwalk for over 50 years. This is a charm of yesteryear. A dispute over lease renewal threatens Pauls business with take over plans. Here are some stills from my movie.

Paul Georgoulakos aka “The Chief”

Every day between 3 and 4 o’clock, these 2 squirrels come to the counter looking for handouts. Chief always obliges with French Fries.

Ken Rush paints his magic.

Pauls Priest, Father Eugene pays a visit to bless the cotton candy and hotdog grill with holy water. When Father Eugene was asked to sum-up Coney Island in one word he said “Rainbow, as Coney Island has every color within”

Paul serving up his famous sweet buttered corn.

Stan takes a break from the Coney Island History Project. As he tells Chief current events over coffee.

Stella a local “Coney Island Baby” and frequent customer as she sings Under the Boardwalk for the camera.

Pauls grandson and Chop-Chop play parlor tricks.

Another satisfied customer.

Then one afternoon the signs came down suddenly and piece by piece ” The Ocean Liner of the Sea” was stripped. Sad days on the Boardwalk.

Pre-dating Hinduism and originating from folk dances Theyyam is a ritual performed during harvest celebrations in India. Collections of wild drumming, costume and dancing create pathways for deity worship.
